They realized the full potential of the Winter Olympics as a cold war front and exploited it to the fullest. They used the games as a platform to demonstrate the superiority of their respective political system.
Between 1924 and 1940, the Winter and Summer Olympic Games grew in popularity. Numerous countries stepped forward to host the 1940 Winter Olympic Games and there came a point when the International Olympic Committee was pampered with numerous options. The city of Sapporo in Japan was selected to host these games, which brought great joy to the Japanese citizens.
As is common knowledge, the Olympic Games are divided into 2 parts; the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics. In the early years, the Summer and Winter games used to be held in one and the same year. However, in order to increase the level of smoothness in the preparation for the games, the Winter Olympics is now held 2 years after each of the Summer Olympics.
